About the role

The School of Arts is a vibrant learning community of outstanding lecturers and researchers. The Lecturer (Voice) will work under the broad direction of the Director, Arts Academy, Dean and Deputy Dean, School of Arts and work as part of the Arts Academy team of academic and administrative staff. The School of Arts encompasses liberal arts (humanities and social sciences), community and human services, social work, and visual and performing arts.

The Arts Academy is a regional centre of excellence in performing arts training, practice-based research and creative entrepreneurship. You will guide students to complete their studies within various courses in Performing Arts (Voice) and contribute to the School’s research program and administrative functions.

About you

Working independently in the conduct of practical, skills-based teaching and research activities, you will be an active contributor to administrative functions within the Arts Academy and the School. You will undertake the teaching and assessment of undergraduate, honours and postgraduate students within the area of Voice (Performing Arts) in conjunction with research activities and team projects. You will have the ability to develop and implement a student-centred approach with a focus on student educational experience and success within their elected space. You will have knowledge and understanding of various needs, including learning needs, of a broad range of students, including those with disabilities and from diverse cultural backgrounds.

You will possess:

  • an ability to teach Voice into the Acting components of the Bachelor of Performing Arts and experience in vocal pedagogy for singers (Music Theatre);
  • expertise and a demonstrated capacity and preparedness to achieve an active research profile in the field of Voice (Acting and Music Theatre);
  • enthusiasm for teaching, and a good teaching record; and
  • strong interpersonal, oral and written communications skills and an ability to relate well to students and other University staff.

Directions from Victoria’s Chief Health Officer require all Victorian-based Federation University workers to have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine by 22 October 2021 and to be fully vaccinated by 26 November 2021, unless they are an Excepted Person as defined by the COVID-19 Mandatory Vaccination (Workers) Directions.
