The School of Humanities and Social Inquiry (HSI) consists of a collection of Disciplines including Sociology, Philosophy, History, Politics, Indigenous Studies, Cultural Studies, and Languages and Linguistics. The School is home to the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of International Studies, and the Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics degrees. The Discipline of Sociology specialises in the Sociology of Emotion; Work and Labour; Futures Studies, Environment and Bio-Technology; Digital Studies; and Political Sociology.

The Lecturer, Sociology will make contributions to teaching within the Sociology program. Applicants should have a demonstrated capacity to contribute to teaching across all undergraduate levels in Sociology. There are immediate teaching needs in First year introduction to sociology, and Gender and Sexualities. The ability to teach in areas of Social Research Methods, and Race and Migration would be an asset.

Research is an essential component of this role, and the successful applicant will be expected to have strong records of research relative to opportunity and be able to contribute high-quality research within the School. The area of research specialisation is open. In all cases, research and teaching expertise should complement, rather than duplicate, that of current staff. The successful applicant will be encouraged and supported to apply for external research funding such as an ARC DECRA or Discovery Grant. The appointee will also be expected to contribute to governance at an appropriate level.

The successful candidate must hold a PhD in Sociology by the closing date for applications.
