Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering

  • Multiple positions available - ongoing and fixed term contracts, teaching-focussed and teaching-research roles
  • Flexibility in work hours – open to full time or part time work arrangements
  • Salary range: Level B $102,983 - $121,864 (pro rata) or Level C $125,639 - $144,523 (pro rata) plus 17% superannuation (appointment will be dependent on applicant’s skills and experience)

About the team

The Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering under the School of Physics, Mathematics and Computing is renowned for its award-winning researchers, teachers and facilities. The broad-based undergraduate and postgraduate programs are complemented by a wide range of research activities and the School is a leader in developing graduates with high level expertise in computer programming and the methods involved in performing complex computations and processing data. In the resource rich state of Western Australia the opportunities for partnership and collaborative research are extensive and the Department has well established links with industry. 

About the opportunity

We are seeking experienced Lecturers to join our department and make a long-term contribution to research and teaching excellence.

As a Lecturer focussed on teaching, you will lecture and coordinate  units in the fields of Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity or Artificial Intelligence. You will also help to design and develop units, curricula and effective teaching materials and assessments activities.

In you are appointed to a role with an additional research focus, you will also build a research portfolio of high-quality publications, grants and collaborations, and supervise PhD, masters and honours research students.

To be considered for a teaching focussed role, you will demonstrate:

  • A PhD degree in Computer Science or a related field or relevant experience in industry
  • Demonstrated university teaching experience relevant to the Department’s teaching programs
  • Evidence of and willingness to teach large units, engage in curriculum design and organise teaching activities
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills in interactions with students and staff

To be considered for the teaching and research focussed role, you will also demonstrate:

  • Research performance that complements an area of existing strength in the Department, with a strong publication record
  • Ability to supervise honours and higher degree research students
  • Ability to apply for and manage research grants and establish research collaborations

To be considered for the level C teaching and research focussed role a candidate should meet the selection criteria for level B and additionally:

  • Evidence of sustained growth in high quality research publications, competitive research funding and building sustainable and collaborative research partnerships
  • Ability to play a major role or provide significant leadership in scholarly research and/or professional activities relevant to the profession, discipline and/or community 
  • Ability to perform the full academic responsibilities of and related administration for the co-ordination of academic programs of the University
