Why Your Role Matters:

The School of Science is seeking a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Physical Geography.  The School encompasses the disciplines of Physics and Oceanography, Chemistry, Geography, Aviation and Mathematics & Statistics.  A comprehensive program of Physical Geography courses are taught from first through to third

year and forms part of a three-year Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Physical Geography, or a four-year Honours degree.  A PhD program is also offered. 

The School of Science has a strong research profile and a long history of high-quality teaching in Physical Geography. The School has capacity to support field-based research projects and accompanying laboratory and data analysis, and can facilitate access to high end computing for modelling, remote sensing and big data. Current research strengths in Physical Geography include coastal geomorphology, biogeography, wildlife ecology and GIS and remote sensing. The School of Science is looking to compliment and extend this expertise with a research and teaching focused academic position in physical geography with expertise and experience in for example environmental geoscience, hydrology, geomorphology, climate, natural hazards, GIS and remote sensing.

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs in Physical Geography, including supervision of Honours and Postgraduate students. 

The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the School's research program.  The School has a strong research profile in Physical Geography with facilities to support field projects and computationally intensive modelling and data analysis. 

Applicants are expected to have a PhD in Physical Geography or a closely related field, a demonstrated record of high quality research in Physical Geography  and the ability and willingness to contribute to the teaching program at all levels.  Previous university teaching experience would be an advantage.  Appointment as a senior lecturer requires evidence of qualifications for that level.  Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
