About the position

A Level B or level C teaching and research academic is expected to develop curriculum, teach and/or undertake research and/or other scholarly work relevant to the development of their discipline or professional field. An academic at this level will make a significant contribution to the discipline at the national level.  They will normally play a major role or provide a significant degree of leadership in scholarly, research and/or professional activities relevant to the profession. 

The position holder will have a strong understanding of current issues and research that impact education and pedagogy in outdoor education and environmental science in the Education sector. Demonstrated experience in developing high quality teaching and learning programs underpinned by current research in outdoor education, evaluation and assessment at a tertiary and/or school level is essential. The position holder will also understand diverse theories that inform learning approaches from a range of theoretical dimensions to lead change. The position holder will have a research track-record and a program of research that will inform evidence-based approaches to research projects, course and teaching delivery. There is an expectation for a demonstrated track-record in working with school and sector leaders to further strengthen course and research collaborations.

Skills and Experience

  • Design, coordinate and teach subjects and courses which provide a high-quality learning experience that engages undergraduate, honours and postgraduate students.
  • Design innovative and effective curriculum which reflects developing best practice nationally and internationally.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to others in subject or course level curriculum design and development and delivery of teaching.
  • Conduct and lead innovative and high impact research and produce conference and seminar papers and publications resulting from that research.
  • Obtain necessary research funding from contracts/grants/consultancies.
