Up to Full-Time continuing Lecturer or Senior Lecturer (Indigenous Health) role has become available within our Adelaide Medical School.
An exciting opportunity exists for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer to join our team in the Adelaide Medical School who will teach into undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Indigenous Health.
This role will make significant contributions to curriculum development and planning for the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) Program and future Bachelor of Medical Studies / Doctor of Medicine (B/MD) Program in relation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, and ensure the development of written and clinical competency assessment items are aligned with health issues being faced in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander’s.
Eligibility Criteria: The filling of this position is intended to constitute a special/equal opportunity measure under section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth) and section 65 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1983 (SA). The position is therefore only open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applications.
This position consolidates the Adelaide Medical School’s role in recruitment, education, placement and training of Aboriginal students to become Aboriginal doctors. It is consistent with Wirltu Yarlu plans to increase and train increase numbers of Aboriginal students within the University.
To be successful at Level B you will need:
- Current health professional registration with AHPRA.
- Experience working in Aboriginal health or within mainstream health services with Aboriginal patients.
- Demonstrated experience in medical education or equivalent experience in clinical teaching of medical students.
- Commitment to working with Aboriginal staff, students and health professionals to close the gap in health and educational outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to work with others in the design and delivery of course and subject material, which is student-centred, and includes the capacity to incorporate new technologies and new approaches to teaching and learning.
In addition to the above, to be successful at level C you will need:
- A medical degree and general practice fellowship or A PhD in medical education, or a relevant field, or progress towards a PhD in a relevant area, or a record of scholarly and professional achievement in research.
- Demonstrated clinical or academic leadership skills, including the ability to mentor less experienced staff.
- Ability to manage teaching using e-learning platforms and to remain well connected to peers and stakeholders through the use of synchronous and asynchronous telecommunications.
- Demonstrated commitment to working as a clinician in rural South Australia.
