About This Opportunity 

The School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at St Lucia comprises five discipline groups, one of which is Cyber Security and Software Engineering (CSS).  The software engineering group within CSS has research strengths in software correctness, blockchain, static analysis, DevOps, and automated testing.  CSS is also closely associated with UQ Cyber Security, which has recently created innovative Device Testing Labs, Agile Security Operation Centre (ASOC) labs, and Cyber War Rooms.

We are seeking to grow our Software Engineering group by the addition of a Lecturer (Level B) and/or Senior Lecturer (Level C), teaching and research appointment to the CSS team.  The school is ramping up its investment in teaching, research and engagement to create an inspiring, diverse and flexible workplace.  We are seeking applicants who can contribute to our existing research strengths mentioned above.  We are keen to develop a multi-disciplinary research focus on software for the energy transition (renewable energy, smart homes, energy management systems, energy trading, etc), so applicants with research expertise in related areas such as blockchain and smart contracts, digital twins, data-driven integration of systems, and AI for energy management will be highly regarded.

It is expected that the successful applicant will have the demonstrated capability and willingness to teach into the overall teaching portfolio of EECS in mainstream subjects as well as the following areas within the school:

  • Introductory, intermediate, and advanced programming courses

  • Software Engineering at introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels

  • Software Engineering for individual capstone projects and research methods

  • Software Engineering for team projects at introductory and intermediate levels

In addition, applicants are expected to be able to teach courses in the advanced software engineering areas aligned with their area of research expertise.

This is a full-time (100%) continuing position for up to at Academic level B or C. The full-time equivalent base salary at Level B will be in the range $108,201.26- $128,201.75, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $126,595.47 - $149,996.05 annually.

The full-time equivalent base salary at Level C will be in the range $132,201.83 - $152,202.33, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $154,676.15 - $178,076.72 annually.

As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.

About You  

Academic Level B:

  • Completion of a PhD in computer science or in a relevant field, specialising in software engineering.

  • A growing profile in teaching and research in software engineering. Multi-disciplinary research expertise on software systems and applications especially for the energy transition will be an advantage.

  • Expertise in blockchain and smart contracts, digital twins, data-driven integration of systems, and AI/Machine Learning for energy management will be highly regarded.

  • A developing national reputation and track record of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.

  • Evidence of contributions towards seeking, obtaining, and managing external research funding.

  • Evidence of a high level of quality teaching at undergraduate, honours, or postgraduate level, ideally with experience in teaching programming and software engineering.

  • Experience in course coordination and contribution to the development and continuous innovation of new programs, curriculum design and course material in the discipline area.

  • A growing record of supervision of Honours and Research Higher Degree students to successful completion.

  • Experience in meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with active contributions to external activities.

Academic Level C:

  • Completion of a PhD in computer science or in a relevant field, specialising in software engineering.

  • An established national profile in teaching and research in software engineering. Multi-disciplinary research expertise on software systems and applications especially for the energy transition will be an advantage.

  • Expertise in blockchain and smart contracts, digital twins, data-driven integration of systems, and AI/Machine Learning for energy management will be highly regarded.

  • An established national reputation and track record of publications in high-quality refereed journals and international conferences.

  • Evidence of successfully seeking, obtaining, and managing external research funding.

  • Evidence of a high level of quality teaching at undergraduate, honours, and postgraduate level, ideally with experience in teaching programming and software engineering.

  • Experience in course coordination and leadership in the development and continuous innovation of new programs, curriculum design and course material in the discipline area.

  • An established track record of supervision of Honours and Research Higher Degree students to successful completion.

  • Demonstrated leadership and strong contributions in internal and external service roles.
