About the opportunity 

The Faculty of Medicine and Health (FMH) and Sydney Pharmacy School delivers postgraduate courses in Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Development including the Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Master of Medicine and Science in Medicine. These postgraduate programs have established a highly credible reputation working closely with stakeholders in the sector from the industry and government. Graduates from the program are well placed to pursue a range of careers within the pharmaceutical and device industry and within government areas such as regulation. This program is delivered in close collaboration with FMH Professional Education in Health (PEH).

The Sydney Pharmacy School is seeking a new academic staff member at Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level to lead the School’s postgraduate program in Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Development. The successful candidate will join a strong team of academics and researchers in the Sydney Pharmacy School and FMH, with responsibility for providing training in pharmacology, pharmaceutical science and therapeutics to students across medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, medical science and science at the University of Sydney.  Here, you will have the opportunity to work within the medicines and device industry, health sector and also across the University of Sydney’s multidisciplinary initiatives, such as the Charles Perkins Centre, Sydney Nano Institute, Drug Discovery Initiative and the Brain and Mind Centre. 

This role will allow you to develop innovations in postgraduate training especially in the area of medicines and device development, conduct independent research and  display research leadership.

  • holds a PhD in a relevant field such as pharmacy, pharmacology, pharmaceutical sciences, health services, health economics and regulatory science;

  • has experience within the medicines and devices industry or in government in medicines and device regulation;

  • demonstrates a detailed understanding of the medicines and medical device development pathways including aspects of research & development, quality control and assurance, manufacturing, regulatory, medical and scientific affairs, clinical trials and marketing and sale.

  • can provide inspirational teaching within the broad area of pharmacology, therapeutics and drug and device development in both undergraduate and postgraduate courses across the FMH;

  • can establish effective working relationships with stakeholders across the medicines and medical devices sector.

  • demonstrates a contribution to independent and collaborative research with evidence that this research has had national impact including publications in high-quality journals relevant to the field;

To be considered for the Senior Lecturer classified as a Level C level position we will also require that you:

  • are acknowledged at a national level as influential in expanding knowledge within the discipline and/or in pedagogical or curriculum innovation

  • have an established network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders that can be leveraged to enhance the standing of the discipline, School/ Faculty and University

  • have demonstrated excellence in research, scholarly activities relevant to the discipline and educational design and practice

  • have significant experience in supervising others and coordinating team activities including unit of study coordination

  • have a developing knowledge and understanding of the key strategic issues in the higher education sector

Your employment is conditional upon the completion of all role required pre-employment or background checks in terms satisfactory to the University. Similarly, your ongoing employment is conditional upon the satisfactory maintenance of all relevant clearances and background check requirements. If you do not meet these conditions, the University may take any necessary step, including the termination of your employment.

For a continuing position, you must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or an Australian Permanent Resident. Australian Temporary Residents may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
