 About the Role


The University of Melbourne is seeking a dynamic early-career academic with expertise in Industrial Engineering, or cognate areas such as Manufacturing and Industrial Systems Engineering. You will make a significant contribution to the teaching, research and administration of the School of EMI. You will teach in graduate programs and take on administrative roles commensurate with the position. You will be an aspiring leader in industrial engineering research, with ambition to publish in high quality journals and conferences, mentor research students and secure independent grant funding to support a program of research. Active collaboration with other research groups in the School and the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology is encouraged, as is interaction with industry and government agencies.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide a significant degree of scholarly research initiative and collaboration in the discipline of industrial engineering
  • Coordinate and conduct lectures and tutorials at postgraduate level, including engagement in teaching innovation and improvement;
  • Develop and innovate high quality subject materials and project based subject delivery;
  • Exercise leadership in scholarly research, in conjunction with other colleagues;

You will also have:

  • PhD in Industrial Engineering, or equivalent
  • Research interests in lean, smart manufacturing, and/or digital transformation
  • A track record of quality research as evidenced by research publications in leading journals and conferences commensurate with opportunity
  • Demonstrated ability to perform independent research and a commitment to interdisciplinary research
  • Experience with undertaking collaborative research projects as part of a team across institutions and/or disciplines especially in the areas of manufacturing and industrial engineering
  • Evidence of well-established and excellent quality research track record and leadership in industrial engineering and manufacturing
  • Building an international reputation, evidenced through high-impact peer-reviewed and refereed journals, and invitations to speak at national and international meetings and/or leadership of nationally or internationally significant research projects
