About the Role

The College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences is seeking a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Indigenous and Australian Studies to join the talented academic team at Flinders University.

Working closely within a supportive and inclusive culture, the successful Lecturer/Senior Lecturer will produce quality research and deliver undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching in Indigenous and Australian Studies.

The teaching component of this balanced role will focus on the planning and delivery of topics, development of teaching materials, multi-mode teaching delivery and other innovative and contemporary teaching and learning strategies, appropriate for the discipline.

The Lecturer/Senior Lecturer will make independent high-quality contributions to research and/or creative activity, through activities such as quality publications, external grant acquisition and research student supervision. You will also be required to strengthen existing partnerships and explore new partnerships with external stakeholders that have potential for providing improved teaching, learning and research outcomes for the University.

About You

Candidates will be determined to be suitable for Level B or Level C positions depending on their relevant experience. The successful candidate for a Lecturer position in Indigenous and Australian Studies will demonstrate:

As the Lecturer in Indigenous and Australian Studies, you will have:

• Completion, or near-completion of a PhD in a field related to an area of the College’s teaching and research. Or an equivalent qualification and relevant experience.

• Evidence of community leadership and scholarly engagement with local, national and international Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander/ Indigenous communities.

• Demonstrated evidence of, or capacity to, undertake high quality teaching in a tertiary environment, including involvement in topic coordination and curriculum design.

• Demonstrated evidence of a strong research track record (for career stage) in an area aligned with research strengths in the College, including evidence of quality publications that may include conference presentations, book chapters, monograph and/or Q1 journal publications, and attraction of external competitive grants.

As the Senior Lecturer in Indigenous and Australian Studies, you will have:

• Completion of a PhD related to an area of the College’s teaching and research, or equivalent qualification and relevant experience.

• Evidence of community leadership and scholarly engagement with local, national and international Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander/Indigenous communities.

• Significant track record and demonstrated evidence of successful relevant teaching experience at tertiary level, including responsibility for topic coordination, course coordination and curriculum design.

• Demonstrated experience and successful track record in supervision of honours and higher degree students to successful completion.
