The role
The School of Media, Creative Arts and Social Inquiry (MCASI) at Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia is seeking to enhance its capacity and leadership within the disciplines of Library and Information Science, and Recordkeeping and Archives through the appointment of two positions: a Senior Lecturer (ALC level), who will undertake both teaching and research; and an experienced Lecturer (ALB level), who will primarily undertake teaching as a Teaching Focused Clinical Professional.

Curtin University is one of only three Australian universities to offer accredited courses in these disciplines.  The degrees taught include postgraduate diplomas and Master’s level courses that are accredited by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), Australian Society of Archivists (ASA), and the Records and Information Management Practitioners Alliance (RIMPA).

In these roles, a successful candidate will be required to:

  • coordinate postgraduate teaching and research courses across both discipline areas;
  • proactively engage and collaborate with industry, national and state organisations, and research end-users;
  • support work integrated learning opportunities for students;
  • contribute to the development and leadership of research and teaching programs in the area; and
  • engage in PhD and Master’s student supervision.

To be successful in these roles the applicant will need a doctoral qualification in library and information science, archives and or/recordkeeping. Experience working as a librarian, professional archivist and/or information scientist or records manager is highly desired.

To be considered an applicant must be willing to relocate to Perth, Western Australia for the duration of the positions as they are Perth-based. Visa sponsorship and relocations support situations may be considered.

The Libraries, Archives, Records and Information Science (LARIS) area sits within the iSchool discipline of the School of Media, Creative Arts and Social Inquiry (MCASI). Research across the iSchool encompasses open access and open science, social media and communications, research evaluation and more. Our staff have strong ties with other areas including Internet Studies, Journalism and the Curtin Open Knowledge Initiative (COKI), which enables exciting opportunities for cross collaboration.
MCASI is a member of iSchools Inc. as well as international and national professional associations with links to the LARIS fields. Our courses engage in critical information practice techniques to engage with global information questions and embedded within the Australian information sector.
