The Opportunity

The School of Philosophical, Historical and International Studies at Monash University is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified Lecturer to contribute to teaching, research and graduate supervision in the Philosophy Department. The Philosophy Program wants to equip its students to discuss difficult, profound and important questions about the world, other people and ourselves.

This position requires an active and innovative academic to contribute to quality teaching through the development of course material and project supervision at major honours or postgraduate level. The successful appointee will prepare and present lectures, tutorials and seminars, undertake marking, contribute to curriculum development, and supervise Honours and postgraduate students.

The successful candidate will have Philosophy of Mind as their area of specialisation; this is an area of strength at Monash, both in the Department of Philosophy and the new Centre for Consciousness & Contemplative Studies. This appointment will have an important teaching role in the Philosophy major, and potentially in our Politics, Philosophy, Economics (PPE) degree and our interdisciplinary major in Human Rights. The candidate will contribute to administrative service, commensurate with expertise and experience, within the Department and/or School.

The successful candidates will hold a PhD in Philosophy, demonstrated experience in teaching in a tertiary environment, and show capacity to contribute strongly to research development in philosophy at Monash.

This role is a full-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

If you believe you fit this profile, we look forward to receiving your application.

At Monash University, we are committed to being a Child Safe organisation. This position at the University will require the incumbent to hold a valid Working with Children Check.

Your application must address the selection criteria. Please refer to "How to apply for Monash Jobs ".
