About the school
The School of Biomedical Sciences encompasses research and teaching across a range of biological, medical and health science-related fields. The School comprises over seventy academic and professional staff members, plus a similar number of adjunct staff. The School is based at the UWA Health Campus located on the QEII Medical Campus next to the Perth’s major teaching hospitals, research institutes and University medical library, creating a stimulating biomedical teaching and research environment in one of the most liveable cities on the planet.

About the opportunity
Reporting to the Head of Discipline (Pharmacology & Toxicology), you will undertake both academic teaching and research in pharmacology and toxicology. You will coordinate and deliver teaching into pharmacology units within the Bachelor of Biomedical Science and B.Sc. undergraduate programs with additional teaching of pharmacology core concepts in the MD program.

You will also establish an active, independent and successful research program in an area relevant to pharmacology and toxicology and supervise Honours and MSc/PhD students within that program.

About you
You will hold a Ph.D. in a field relevant to Pharmacology and Toxicology, showcasing a comprehensive skill set for teaching core pharmacological concepts, encompassing pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, drug safety, toxicology, pharmacogenomics, and autonomic nervous system functions.

Your teaching expertise will extend to applying these principles in managing cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease, and cancer. Notably, you will excel in innovation, adapting teaching materials to modern needs, technologies, and pedagogical demands, all while emphasising inclusive teaching practices for equal opportunity.

In research, you will demonstrate an exceptional track record evidenced by peer-reviewed articles and emerging success in securing competitive funding. Your proven ability to supervise HDR students and contribute to collaborative research programs in pharmacology and toxicology will also be evident.

Engaging positively in team, school, and university activities, you will demonstrate a commitment to equity and diversity principles, as well as effective communication of research outcomes within the community. Your position-specific capabilities include expertise in teaching laboratory techniques, translating research findings into high-quality educational content, and effectively balancing a productive research program with substantial teaching responsibilities.
