The School of Psychological Sciences is seeking a suitably qualified academic to be actively involved in the development, implementation, and delivery of units in the Master of Clinical Psychology and Undergraduate Psychology suite of programs within the School, as well as engaging in research supervision.


  • Salary Package: Lecturer (Level B) from $115,787 to $136,995 or Senior Lecturer (Level C) from $141,376 to $162,584 p.a., plus 17% employer’s superannuation and annual leave loading

  • Appointment Type:  Full time position for 5 months [31st January 2024 – 1st July, 2024]

  • Location: Macquarie University (Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde)

The School of Psychological Sciences is seeking a suitably qualified academic to be actively involved in the development, implementation, and delivery of units in the Master of Clinical Psychology and Undergraduate Psychology suite of programs within the School, as well as engaging in research supervision.


You will have a tertiary qualification in psychology or a related discipline, and the capacity to design, deliver units and programs at the undergraduate and the postgraduate levels, including the Master of Clinical Psychology Course. You will also have a strong track record in research supervision. Additionally, you will possess a willingness to embrace educational technology, blended learning and educational innovation.

The School of Psychological Sciences is ranked in the top 75 Psychology Departments in the world and is at the forefront of excellence in research, teaching, and community engagement. We offer accredited undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Psychology with the largest suite of postgraduate programs in New South Wales. We also offer the Bachelor of Cognitive and Brain Sciences degree.

The School sits under the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences (FMHHS) whose current education suite includes courses in clinical science, physiotherapy, medicine, exercise and sports science, public health, psychology, cognitive sciences, linguistics, audiology, and speech pathology. The Faculty forms part of MQ Health, an integrated academic health sciences enterprise which incorporates Macquarie University Hospital and primary and speciality clinics.

Essential criteria for Level B (Lecturer) & Level C (Senior Lecturer):

  • A PhD or equivalent tertiary qualifications in Psychology.

  • Experience in teaching evidence-based assessment methods and evidence-based core components of cognitive-behavioural therapy approaches and counselling skills across the lifespan, including working with children and adult clients with a range of mental health problems.  

  • Experience in teaching in psychology units in accredited programs. 

  • A commitment and capability to deliver high-quality learning and teaching, including the design, delivery, and management of online and face-to-face content, lectures, tutorials, and assessments, with evidence of excellent student outcomes and reflective practice.

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to relate to build an inclusive teaching and learning environment, and work effectively in a team environment.

  • Evidence of successful delivery to diverse student cohorts and of creating a positive student experience characterised by strong engagement at the undergraduate and /or postgraduate levels.

Additional Essential for Level C (Senior Lecturer):

  • Experience and capacity to successfully supervise Masters and / or PhD research students.

  • Ability to proactively engage or partner with industry and professional bodies on relevant research and / or teaching projects and to represent the School to external stakeholders and the general public

  • Demonstrated experience to make a contribution to the academic life and administrative tasks of the School and Faculty along with a track record of effective teamwork.

  • Outstanding learning and teaching experience with demonstrated experience of involvement in course/curriculum development.

Preferred/Desirable at both levels

  • Experience in, and/or with the teaching of, applied and/or translational research skills in psychological sciences.

  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to teaching across both undergraduate and postgraduate programs in psychological sciences.

  • Registration as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

  • Demonstrated strong track record in research, relative to opportunity.

  • Available to commence role by 30th January 2024
