Overview
Edith Cowan University (ECU) is a large, multi-campus institution serving communities nationally and internationally. The University has two metropolitan campuses at Mount Lawley and Joondalup, and also serves Western Australia’s South-West Region from a campus at Bunbury, 200 km south of Perth.

The School of Education is one of the largest providers of Initial Teacher Education in Australia with more than 5,000 students. The School offers a broad range of programs including Early Childhood Studies, Primary, Secondary and Postgraduate Education.

We are seeking an innovative and creative academic to teach into Early Childhood Studies who is passionate about high quality education and research in their specific discipline, in the context of Initial Teacher Education. The early childhood programs at ECU lead Australia in their stand-alone delivery and are registered both with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRB WA) and Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA).               

This is an exciting opportunity for an early childhood academic to contribute to the undergraduate and postgraduate Early Childhood Studies teaching programs. The Early Childhood Studies program at ECU is a specialist course (birth to eight years) with a large team of researchers and academics. The appointee will demonstrate a high level of connectivity between the education of pre-service teachers, their own early childhood teaching experiences, engagement with the early childhood field and demonstrated research capability.

We are seeking a Mathematics Education specialist to enhance our dynamic team of experts in this field. The successful applicant must have a professional and early childhood teaching profile and demonstrated community and professional links. In addition, the successful applicant will have in-depth knowledge of early childhood curriculum, national learning frameworks and the quality agenda with a research profile evidenced by publications and demonstrated ability to teach at University level.

The Role
The ideal candidate for the Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (Level B/Level C) will have experience and expertise in in the Learning Area of Mathematics.  Specifically, we are seeking an established academic with a PhD in a relevant discipline. They would have experience as an academic and/or in early childhood settings.  The key responsibilities of the positions will include, but not be limited to:
•    Fostering a research culture
•    Producing recognised research outputs and obtaining research grants
•    Developing and contributing to course curriculum at undergraduate and postgraduate level
•    Developing and contributing to post graduate curriculum specifically international markets in  innovative areas of early childhood
•    Supervision of higher degree by research students
•    Engaging in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching with areas that include early childhood Mathematics Education and curriculum and pedagogy for young children.
•    Strategic and proactive engagement with industry, the profession and the community.

The successful applicant will also be required to obtain and maintain a Working with Children Check, a National Police Check and preferably be eligible for Teacher Registration in Western Australia.

Key criteria

  • PhD in a relevant discipline.
  • An established or emerging track record in quality research and outputs in Field of Research codes 13 or 39.
  • Expertise, experience, and a strong pedagogical approach to Mathematics Education in the Early Childhood discipline.

Applicants should possess outstanding interpersonal and relationship skills, with a strong track record of working in and leading teams. University experience and the ability to contribute to other areas in the Early Childhood discipline would be advantageous.

Benefits & Remuneration
These full-time, ongoing positions attract a remuneration of $102,253 - $120,814 (Level B) or $124,522 - $143,081 (Level C) plus 17% University superannuation contribution.
