Overview
The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts is a vibrant conservatoire-style school within Edith Cowan University. WAAPA offers training across all areas of the performing arts including Music, Music Theatre, Acting, Performance-making, Aboriginal Performance, and Dance as well as Production & Design and Arts Management. WAAPA’s internationally recognised Music Theatre courses provide graduates with the skill and experience to pursue sustainable and diverse careers in the performing arts. We provide elite training in singing, dancing, acting and musicianship through two courses:

  • Diploma of Musical Theatre – VET course (Course duration: 1 year FT)
  • Bachelor of Arts (Music Theatre) – HE course (Course duration: 3 years FT)

WAAPA is seeking applicants with relevant experience for two positions in the Music Theatre department:

Lecturer in Music Theatre and Course Coordinator for the Diploma of Musical Theatre (ALEVB)

As Lecturer and Course Coordinator for the Diploma of Musical Theatre, you will be responsible for the leadership and administration of the course, ensuring alignment with Government VET regulations and WAAPA ECU quality and values in delivering contemporary performing arts training.

You will teach in your specialist discipline area:

  • Singing and technical voice, or
  • Acting/acting through song, or
  • Directing music theatre, or
  • Jazz dance/choreography, or
  • As repetiteur/musical director.

You will work alongside a team of dedicated sessional staff who provide teaching in other areas.

PLEASE NOTE: This position requires completion of a current Certificate IV in Training & Assessment

Lecturer in Music Theatre for the Bachelor of Arts (Music Theatre) (ALEVA/B)

As Lecturer in Music Theatre for the Bachelor of Arts (Music Theatre), you will be teaching in WAAPA’s prestigious undergraduate Music Theatre Course alongside a skilled and experienced team of practitioner-teachers.

You will teach technical singing for music theatre both in one-to-one and group settings, and coach and supervise students in their vocal preparation for staged productions.

You will also deliver classes in, or contribute to the production process through:

  • Expertise and leadership in ensemble singing or choral direction, or
  • Accent and dialect coaching, or
  • Alexander Technique for singers, or
  • Other relevant areas of spoken voice specialisation.

Piano proficiency is highly desirable.

The successful candidates will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications, ideally a minimum of Masters level or equivalent professional industry experience.
  • Excellent skills in their specific discipline area;
  • A track record of relevant professional experience in their discipline;
  • Strong administrative skills;
  • Ability to work in a team;
  • Personal attributes that are congruent with the University’s values of Integrity, Respect, Rational Inquiry and Personal Excellence.

Benefits & Remuneration

These full time, ongoing positions attract remuneration of


Level A: $72,650 to $97,389

plus 17% University superannuation contribution.


Level B: $102,253 to $120,814

plus 17% University superannuation contribution.

The level will be determined by the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience.
