About the Role

The School of Agriculture, Food and Ecosystem Sciences seeks an outstanding academic in soil science to join the Soils and Environment Group. This role involves fostering soil science opportunities, teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and conducting impactful research in collaboration with industry partners. The successful candidate will be based at the Parkville Campus, where they will have access to state-of-the-art facilities and collaborate closely with colleagues.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Work closely with the Soils and Environment Group teaching team to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate soil science subjects.
  • Conduct internationally competitive research, resulting in publications in high impact journals in collaboration with Senior Academic staff.
  • Prepare and deliver lectures, tutorials, practicals and seminars as appropriate.
  • Actively participate at School meetings and contribute to planning activities or committee work to support capacity building in the School/discipline.

Who We Are Looking For

You will have experience in supervising research students and demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, fostering positive relationships with staff, collaborators, and students. Additionally, you should show the ability to work collaboratively within a diverse workforce.

You will also have:

  • Completion of a PhD in soil science or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in soil science and expertise in one or more of the following areas: terrestrial nutrient cycling, environmental soil science, soil hydrology, biophysical modelling of soil processes.
  • Demonstrated experience, relative to opportunity, in developing engaging undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching programs.
  • Experience in supervising research students, relative to opportunity.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University.
