PRIMARY DETAIL

• Salary Package: Lecturer, Level B (PhD), from $108,111 to $127,913, plus 17% employer’s Superannuation and annual leave loading
• Appointment Type: Full Time, Fixed Term (4 year appointment)
• Macquarie University (North Ryde location)

THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced innovative teaching and research academic to join the Department of Philosophy, Macquarie University. The successful candidate will collaboratively contribute and deliver highly sought-after enrolment units and play an active role in forthcoming research initiatives over the next four years.

You will be expected to convene and teach into the following units: Philosophy of Human Nature; Ethics, Business and Work; Rights, Equity and Health; Happiness, Goodness and Justice; Contemporary Topics in Applied Ethics and Theories of Justice, with tutoring as required.

The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the Departments established research groups, including playing an active role in the ongoing work with achieving ERA ratings in Applied Ethics.

About You

You will be able to demonstrate innovation in using technology to enhance educational delivery and have a demonstrated track record of exceptional teaching and research practice in relevant area of Philosophy. You will have experience in successfully delivering a superior student experience to a diverse student cohort at undergraduate level and be willing and able to collaboratively contribute to the teaching and ongoing success of delivering the Department’s highly sought-after enrolment units.

Academics with a strong research background in Ethics and Applied Ethics, with experience in Philosophy of Politics, are particularly encouraged to apply.

Essential:

  • PhD in a relevant area of Philosophy

  • Demonstrated experience in the convening units of study

  • Evidence of ability to design, co-ordinate and deliver undergraduate education in Philosophy including through online programs

  • Evidence of contribution to the co-ordination of large undergraduate programs, including methods in delivering a superior student experience and engagement

  • Established research track record of high-quality peer reviewed publications, including a list of publications

  • Excellent communication skills, with an ability to build rapport and relate to staff and students from all backgrounds and to represent the Department to external stakeholders, including the general public

  • Demonstrated capability to provide leadership and to understand and implement University policies and procedures in collaboration with University and Faculty staff

Desirable:

  • Teaching experience in Ethics, Medical Ethics, Political Philosophy

  • Experience in the supervision of Higher Degree Research Students

  • Demonstrated experience in applying and successfully securing external research funding

  • Demonstrated commitment to principles of equity, diversity and inclusion
