The appointee will interact with staff in the  School,  Faculty, broader University, their peers in other universities, both nationally and internationally, and with community, professional and industry organisations. The appointee will liaise with students at all levels.

Your key responsibilities will include:

Education and Employability

  • Apply First Nations knowledges and experience lens to inform and advise development of resources, assessment and student support.
  • Maintain deep discipline knowledge which is applied to inform unit design
  • Lead teaching teams to develop effective unit curricula and learning resources (including through unit leadership roles)
  • Adopt new innovation in curriculum design at the unit level including integrating industry, clinical and/or research practice to teaching
  • Deliver learner-centric, research-informed teaching practices across different levels / modes of delivery and apply creative teaching practices to improve student success and engagement
  • Contribute to review of units and courses and implements refinements
  • Provide clear assessment criteria and timely feedback to learners to demonstrate learning outcomes
  • Develop effective assessment tasks and rubrics at unit level
  • Monitor and adapts assessment practices to improve learning outcomes
  • Support diverse learners by designing accessible and inclusive unit material and practices
  • Guide students to appropriate support services where appropriate
  • Support the development of junior colleagues
  • Contribute effectively to culture of educational excellence and engages collaboratively with peers
  • Complete Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Learning and Teaching
  • Assist in integrating new pedagogical research across all aspects of education

Research and Innovation

  • Initiate, design and conduct and may lead productive, high-quality research, scholarship and creative activities generating high impact outputs
  • Engage collaboratively to develop novel and high-quality research activities
  • Widely communicate outputs to discipline(s) and the community
  • Ensure impact of academic activity in the field and the community
  • Initiate, design, conduct and may lead in development of industry partnerships and collaboration to enable major breakthroughs, innovative solutions for future translation into real world impact 
  • Support and may lead in applications for external competitive and other funding, and demonstrates sustained efforts
  • Build track record of timely delivery of outcomes for industry partners
  • Supervise honours and/or HDR students with timely completions and productive, high-quality outcomes
  • Adopt and promote a culture of research excellence, innovation and impact.

University Citizenship and Engagement

  • Assist the implementation of local citizenship activities and contribute to effectiveness as an influencer
  • Contribute to the implementation of specific aspects of University’s strategic agenda
  • Assist the implementation of community engagement activities
  • Contribute to the implementation of University’s community engagement agenda

Key selection criteria for this role:

  • Eligible applicants are only persons: Being of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent; and identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and accepted as such by Aboriginal community in which you live or which you once lived.
  • Previous experience and knowledge of working with First Nations communities especially in teaching or nursing practice.
  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a registered nurse.
  • Postgraduate qualification in nursing or health related discipline
  • Understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and peoples.
  • Ability to make a contribution to community engagement for research and teaching
  • Capacity to contribute to leadership of teaching, research and/or administration
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues
  • Emerging reputation in research and scholarship through publications and/or success in obtaining external research funding
