About the team

The School of Biomedical Sciences at The University of Western Australia, encompasses a range of biological, medical and health science-related fields. The School is very active in teaching undergraduate Biomedical Science and Medical students across a wide range of majors and disciplines, plus has a large cohort of Honours and postgraduate research students, including students enrolled in the Master of Infectious Disease program.

The School’s campus is geographically located next to the City’s major teaching hospitals, research institutes and University medical library, creating a stimulating biomedical teaching and research environment in one of the most liveable cities on the planet.

About the opportunity

UWA is seeking an academic with a background in teaching and research to fill the role of Lecturer of Microbiology and Immunology.

In this varied role you will develop, deliver and coordinate new and existing undergraduate and postgraduate educational programs. As a teaching academic, you will be responsible for the delivery of lectures and teaching laboratories into the Major in Microbiology and Immunology and the Masters of infectious Diseases. You will promote pedagogical innovation and excellence, and participate in administrative and service roles within the Discipline and School.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to establish and promote a sustainable research program aligned with the research domain of infection and immunopathology within the School of Biomedical Science.

Applicants in the fields of infectious diseases immunology, host pathogen interactions, novel therapeutic strategies, and computational biology (including bioinformatics) in infectious disease are encouraged to apply.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:

  • PhD in the field of Microbiology or Immunology;
  • Strong track record in research as evidenced by scholarly publications in peer reviewed journals and funding success relative to opportunity;
  • Demonstratable experience and success in teaching, delivery and assessment
  • Experience supervising or co-supervising Honours, Masters and Higher Degree Research (HDR) students
  • Ability to work in a team environment and with diverse groups both internally and externally
