Overview

The School of Medical and Health Sciences is a leading provider of graduates for the Masters of Exercise Science (Strength and Conditioning) course and the Bachelor of Science (Exercise and Sports Science) and several complementary double degrees, with Biomechanics being a core standard for the Exercise Science program accreditation provided by Exercise and Sport Science Australia (ESSA).  Modern and well-equipped teaching and research facilities combined with enthusiastic staff and supportive administration make the School an enjoyable and productive atmosphere in which to work.

We are currently offering two positions with both appointments is planned for a mid to late January 2023 start date. Applicants should clearly identify which position(s) they are applying for in their application, whilst addressing the specific requirements of each role, as listed below. 

Lecturer, Exercise and Sports Science (Strength and Conditioning)

This position requires the successful candidate to primarily teach units that focus on strength and conditioning in the Masters of Exercise Science (Strength and Conditioning) with the possibility of some teaching within the undergraduate Sport Science course. Given the broad nature of strength and conditioning, applicants who can teach into multiple areas of sports science will be more competitive.

The successful candidate will need to:

  • Have relevant post-graduate qualifications, and/or completing a PhD in sports science or a related field with a focus on strength and conditioning and human performance.   Applicants who have completed a PhD and possess an appropriate research profile will be more competitive at the Level B appointment.  Applicants who have not completed a PhD, should be close to completing their PhD.;
  • Have an NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist Certification or ability to complete it with first 6 months of employment.
  • Have an ASCA Level-2 or higher accreditation or an ASCA Level-1 accreditation with the potential to upgrade to an ASCA Level-2 accreditation.
  • Have lecturing or tutoring experience and the ability to teach into research methods, applied biomechanics, and physiological testing methods, or other units with a strength and conditioning focus within the discipline.
  • Have the ability to teach R, advanced statistical methods, Excel coding, and other technologies related to strength and conditioning.
  • Have demonstrated experience delivering on and off campus classes through online/digital technologies.
  • Have demonstrated experience and/or equivalence in ensuring best practice in teaching, including activities around moderation of assessments and;
  • Have a developing research track record, including peer-reviewed journal articles, successful grants and research translation experience or equivalent industry outputs which demonstrate a significant contribution to the strength and conditioning field.
  • Be willing to engage in broader university service activities as part of their workload, including School-wide committees which drive continuous improvement in education and/or research activity.

Lecturer, Exercise and Sports Science (Biomechanics)

This position will require you to teach into units which focus on biomechanics and functional anatomy. Given the broad nature of exercise and sports science, applicants who can teach into other areas such as growth and development, motor learning and control, and/or strength and conditioning will be more competitive.

The successful candidate will need to:

  • Have a PhD in Exercise and Sport Science or a related field or be nearing completion. Applicants who have 10 research publications/outputs, relative to years since completing PhD, will be more competitive at the Level B appointment
  • Have lecturing or tutoring experience and the ability to teach into the curriculum domains described above.
  • Have demonstrated experience around delivering on and off campus classes through online/digital technologies;
  • Have demonstrated experience and/or equivalence in ensuring best practice in teaching, including activities around moderation of assessments and ensuring compliance to teaching and learning policies;
  • Have significant industry experience in the analysis of movement using biomechanical principles and techniques with a network of industry-based colleagues who can support the translation of research to practice, with your own industry-based experience informing your teaching
  • Have a developing research track record, including peer-reviewed journal articles, successful grants and research translation experience or equivalent industry outputs which demonstrate a significant contribution to the field of biomechanics, and preferably related to movement analysis. Additional knowledge and skills in programming languages and/or modelling will be highly regarded.
  • Be willing to engage in broader university service activities as part of their workload, including School-wide committees which drive continuous improvement in education and/or research activity.

Benefits & Remuneration

These positions will be appointed as full-time (fixed term or ongoing) ALEVA or ALEVB and will attract remuneration of between $72,650 - $102,253 pa plus 17% University superannuation contribution. Level of appointment will be based on qualifications and experience.
