About the Role
The Lecturer (Engineering and Computing Education) will work in the Teaching and Learning Laboratory in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology and will be responsible for providing leadership in relation to curriculum development, implementation and assessment in the Faculty. Working under the broad direction of the Director of the Laboratory, the Lecturer will enhance approaches to support student learning and engagement by drawing on research in engineering and computing education and related fields, to align with the strategic direction of the Faculty.
The position will be responsible for leading and coordinating: evidence-based programs to enhance teaching capability, evidence-based projects to support staff to enhance teaching and learning, and research to inform and evaluate initiatives to enhance teaching and learning. The Lecturer will drive significant contributions towards learning and teaching, and research in computing education, engineering education or a related field.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing strategic advice on best practice in teaching, learning and assessment to staff who teach in the Faculty.
- Monitoring, identifying and promoting engagement, effective and efficient learning approaches, taking advantage of educational technologies to support learning
- Communicating and disseminating research on engineering and computing education to enhance impact
- Engaging in ongoing professional development in the area of engineering and computing education and higher education, and maintaining knowledge of current research, resources and best practice in the field.
About You
You will bring an ability and willingness to work both independently and as an effective member of a team. You will show evidence of high quality publications in engineering or computing education research and demonstrated success in conceptualising, preparing and managing relevant grants to completion. You will also demonstrate high level of written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
You will also have:
- Completed a PhD in engineering or computing education or a relevant discipline, or be close to completion
- A strong record of effective teaching: coordinating, lecturing, and
facilitating/demonstrating or tutoring in higher education, preferably in one of the disciplines of the Faculty, and experience in the design, delivery, and assessment of curriculum in higher education - Experience in designing and delivering effective professional development workshops, and educational programs across a range of subjects, seminars and other teaching and learning support for teaching staff in higher education
- Demonstrated capacity to influence and enhance educational policies and practices
- A solid understanding of contemporary issues in teaching and learning in computing and engineering, in particular those relating to project-based learning and authentic learning activities and assessments
