Overview

Kurongkurl Katitjin, Centre for Indigenous Australian Education and Research plays a pivotal role in Edith Cowan University’s commitment to Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, families, and communities. We support University wide activities, specific programs tailored to Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their cultures, and actively engage with these communities. Our core objectives encompass: 

  • engaging closely with - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities
  • assisting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and staff to realise their full potential;
  • ensuring that individual differences and diversity are respected; and
  • contributing to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community development and sustainability through our students, staff and graduates.

We are currently seeking an experienced educator to join our academic team, dedicated to making a substantial impact on the education of Initial Teacher Education (ITE) students within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander educational contexts through teaching and research.

The Role

As a culturally responsive educator your primary focus will be to enrich the teaching and scholarship activities at Kurongkurl Katitjin by infusing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives and knowledges into teaching and research initiatives. Drawing upon your experiences and understanding, you will identify, create, and deliver teaching materials and curricula that resonate within this unique and diverse context. Your contributions will play a vital role in developing culturally-grounded graduates who are both classroom and world ready.

Applicants should refer to the attached Selection Criteria, which also includes being able to demonstrate:

  • Relevant Masters (or substantial progress towards completion), and/or be studying for a PhD, and/or equivalent professional experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate, develop and teach units at both undergraduate and postgraduate level in Education and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives.

You will also demonstrate personal attributes that are congruent with the University’s values of Integrity, Respect, Rational Inquiry, Personal Excellence and Courage.

Benefits & Remuneration

This position attracts remuneration of $110,065 to $130,045 pa plus 17% University superannuation contribution.
