Offer Description
  • Employment Type: Full time – 35 hours per week.
  • Duration: Convertible tenure track
  • Remuneration: From $119,440 + 17% superannuation and leave loading
  • Location: Kensington Campus, NSW (Hybrid Flexible Working)

With strengths in literary, gender and media studies, in our many varied contextual and language offerings, UNSW Sydney has the largest enrolment of any Chinese Studies program in Australia.

In the position of Lecturer, you will demonstrate research excellence in Chinese and related studies, contribute to the Chinese Studies program and participate in the wider social engagement activities of our dynamic team. You will also propose and develop new courses in Chinese Studies

The role of Lecturer reports to Head of School  and has no direct reports.

Accountabilities

Specific accountabilities for this role include (but are not limited to):

  • Demonstrate and continuously develop a well-defined teaching philosophy that inspires student learning;
  • Conduct classes, assess student learning achievements and support students in assigned undergraduate or postgraduate courses in line with UNSW policy;
  • Engage in individual and/or collaborative research in a manner consistent with disciplinary practice.
  • Participate in the research training of Honours and Postgraduate students.
  • Create scholarly impact which is recognised by peers in the advancement of disciplinary knowledge.
  • Design and develop learning activities and resources, and provide assessment and feedback using a range of suitable approaches and learning environments.
  • Support learning progression with students as individuals (through such activities as one-to-one consultation) and as a cohort (through general course related advice) to achieve positive learning and employability outcomes for students.

Who You Are:

Skills and Experience required (but not limited to):

  • A PhD in Chinese Studies or a discipline relevant to this position.
  • Native or near-native abilities in the Chinese language.
  • A publication and grant record relative to opportunity.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design, development and delivery at undergraduate level.
  • Experience using and/or designing with educational technologies and online delivery methods.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence
