About the Role 

Swinburne has an exciting opportunity for a Lecturer, Chemistry/Biochemistry to join the Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology to support the delivery of high-quality personalised education to a dedicated and large student cohort. 

The focus of the role is towards teaching where you will contribute to the preparation and delivery of teaching activities for both the undergraduate and postgraduate programs of the Department including lectures, tutorials, workshops and laboratory classes, and assessment. You will assume administrative tasks associated with normal teaching duties, including developing and supporting academic programs and working with the academic team in the development of program change and innovation. It’s also expected that you will mentor and support students on academic matters as well as supervising higher degree research students.

In addition, you will make original and innovative contributions to the School’s overall research output, income and impact by fostering a strong research culture that includes international collaboration, competitive grants and high-quality publications.

About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:

  • Demonstrated experience and excellence in tertiary teaching in the fields of analytical, environmental, inorganic or general chemistry, and/or areas of biochemistry. 
  • Ability to contribute to teaching, associated administrative duties, coordination and curriculum development at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In particular, demonstrated capacity to teach in the relevant discipline.
  • Demonstrated commitment to leading edge/best practice education, including blended learning formats, online teaching and the use of case studies, role-plays and/or simulations in the learning environment
  • Demonstrated understanding of research in the university context, a capacity in the use of a variety of research methods and a track record of publishing in discipline relevant quality academic journals. 
  • Demonstrated ability, or potential, to attract research funding from sources external to the university or to contribute to funded research projects.

Qualifications
  • An earned doctoral qualification in the relevant discipline or a related field 
  • A teaching qualification
