The Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning seeks to appoint an outstanding academic with a passion for the field of Architectural History & Theory.
- This is a continuing (tenure track) teaching and research position in a globally-recognised, comprehensive built environment school

About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an academic who is inspired by Architectural History & Theory and whose research and teaching enriches the Faculty’s longstanding commitment to the understanding the history of the built environment. Your expertise will complement the Faculty’s existing geographical and historical areas of knowledge, characterised by strong understanding of the relevant professional disciplines. You will engage with transnational and interdisciplinary approaches to architectural history and theory, helping to move beyond colonial and Eurocentric systems of knowledge.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Initiating and developing high quality subjects and related materials within curriculum framework of undergraduate and graduate programs.
- Actively initiating and participating in research projects, especially those that attract external research funding, and producing high quality research publications and other outputs.
- Building and fostering partnerships with industry, government, collaborators at other universities, and other stakeholders that contribute to the engagement of teaching and research with the wider community.
- Actively participating in leadership and service opportunities in the Faculty and beyond.
Who We Are Looking For
We’re looking for people who demonstrate strong disciplinary knowledge, excellent communication and engagement skills, the ability to work collaboratively and engage positively with colleagues and stakeholders, and are highly motivated to educate the next generations of built environment professionals.
You will also have:
- A PhD or equivalent folio of research (which may include innovative and published design practice) and industry experience in an appropriate field, preferably architecture.
- Demonstrated teaching experience and skills appropriate for undergraduate and graduate content delivery.
- Research excellence commensurate with opportunity as demonstrated by a record of quality refereed research outputs and / or industry consulting or collaborations, with demonstrated capacity to lead research in an area which complements strengths already present in the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning.
