About This Opportunity

The Learning Designer works with Academics and other professional staff across UQ to design, develop, and evaluate learning and training materials for SMI.

You will apply pedagogical principles and best practices to create high-quality courses and programs to enhance teaching quality, and support student and staff learnings. You will also use various tools and platforms to deliver and support these course and programs.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Apply disciplinary knowledge to the development of innovative and successful courses through the creation of learning and teaching resources under the direction of the Principal Learning Designers or academics.

  • Writing, editing, and structuring learning content in a way that bolsters course attendance retention, optimizes learning and addresses identified skill deficits.

  • Applies advanced knowledge of both online and on-campus learning frameworks in relation to the implementation of blended and active learning environments in a tertiary education institution

  • Creates, tests, and evaluates multimedia, student guides, training manuals.

  • Provides administrative support as required for producing and delivering professional development in SMI, including advice to stakeholders on necessary administration requirements.

This is a full-time, fixed term position through to February 2025.

At HEW level 6, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $88,099.39 - $94,512.08, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $103,076.28 - $110,579.13 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.


About You

  • Completion of a degree; or completion of a diploma (preferably in an education/learning design field/ Communication or similar) with significant relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training

  • Proven experience in developing online and on-campus resources with the ability to provide practical support on both traditional and technology-enabled approaches to curriculum, pedagogy and assessment as informed by an understanding of how students learn.

  • Demonstrated commitment to responding to client needs, with the ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders and colleagues in the development of learning content.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks through time and project management as supported by good teamwork and communication skills and to work independently while maintaining attention to detail.

  • Knowledge of software and technical skills used in producing professional development courses. Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, HTML, and LMS.

  • Familiarity in some of the following: EdX, Blackboard, Articulate 360, particularly Rise 360 and Storyline, Genially, or H5P is preferred.

  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Premiere, Illustrator, audition) and the ability to film videos and record podcasts (or a willingness to learn) is a plus.
