POSITION SUMMARY

The Learning Designer (LD) is a member of the Learning & Teaching team and is responsible for the design, build and delivery of digital teaching and learning content from concept to publication. The LD will work in close collaboration with subject matter experts to develop, design and manage the build of fully online, blended and concurrent/hyflex courses whilst also supporting capability building on a one-to-one basis. The LD will also be responsible for developing and delivering workshops and support materials to build capacity for online learning amongst the broader academic community at RMIT. The LD will contribute to the development of templates, course shells and other digital resources to ensure quality and consistency across all online learning products at RMIT. The LD will contribute to the University’s overall digital learning and teaching strategic initiatives through participation in various forums and collaborative initiatives. While reporting to the Manager, Online Learning, the LD is also expected to work with other staff members and stakeholders across the University to support the larger portfolio. Other similar duties may also be required from time to time



KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Work closely on a codesign basis with subject matter experts to design, develop and build high quality digital learning experiences.
  • Design end-user content that is engaging, relevant, interactive and challenging using the most up to date and appropriate range of e-learning authoring and multimedia tools.
  • Ensure that all content adheres to a standard level of pedagogy design, user experience and accessibility.
  • Construct learning experiences that promote interaction, social presence, and community among students, and between students and faculty.
  • Manage individual projects to ensure the timely and cost-effective delivery of digital content that meets the quality standards initially agreed. This includes producing and maintaining detailed project documentation, keeping all key stakeholders up to date with project progress and evaluating the project outcomes.
  • Contribute to staff capability building in online learning, including the design and delivery of workshops, creation of training resources and guides, course shells and templates.
  • Participate in meetings and working groups that provide direction and support to the provision of quality digital content construction.
  • Ensure digital content supports student achievement of the desired learning objectives of the relevant courses.
  • Support the implementation of concurrent/hyflex teaching and learning.
  • Carry out other duties as required by the University.


KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in one of learning and/or assessment design, online education, TESOL, teaching or education or equivalent experience relevant to the area of learning design.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a learning design, teaching or higher education role.

Skills and Experience

  • Solid understanding and experience in the application of learning design principles relevant to the Higher Education sector.
  • Experience with current tools and platforms that support online and blended learning.
  • Experience in the design and development of high-quality learning resources for tertiary students using a range of multimedia tools.
  • Proven ability to establish goals, prioritise tasks, develop schedules, and deliver outcomes to agreed milestones and standards.
  • Experience providing support for academics in course design and the effective use of learning technologies.
  • Experience developing and delivering workshops and writing support resources and guides to uplift academic capacity in online and digitally enhanced learning.
  • Experience in maintaining productive stakeholder relationships, with well-developed negotiation, conflict resolution, relationship building and influencing skills.
  • Experience teaching or other relevant educational work experience will be an advantage.
