Your new role

As a Laboratory Assistant working as a member of a team and under the supervision of senior laboratory staff, you will assist in the provision of technical and hands-on support catering to diverse teaching programs in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Your role will include assisting other team members with the overall presentation of laboratory practical classes for the teaching program, as well as collecting specimens and other resources from external sources. You will also assist in the maintenance of equipment, glassware, and specimens as well as routine laboratory cleanliness and up-keep.

Please note you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role to be considered.

About us
The Curtin Medical School (CMS) is one of four schools in the Faculty of Health Sciences. The school was formed in 2021 by the merger of the Curtin Medical School, School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences and the School of Medical Radiation Sciences. The school trains a range of health professionals through accredited BSc courses. This position is based within the CMS but may also work in related areas across the faculty.

Essential Criteria

  • Year 12 or higher qualification.
  • Experience in a laboratory environment.
  • Good communication skills with a strong desire to work as part of a team.
  • Good organisational skills and an ability to prioritise multiple tasks.
  • A moderate level of physical fitness commensurate with the manual handling work requirements of the role.
  • A commitment to providing a safe and high-quality learning experience for our students.
Desirable Criteria
  • A current “C” class WA driver’s licence.
  • Experience or training in the use of Autoclaves and sterilisation techniques.
  • Experience working with biological specimens such as animal tissue, blood etc.
