Your new role
As a Laboratory Assistant, you will assist and collaborate with senior laboratory staff to provide technical and hands-on support to diverse teaching programs in the Faculty of Health Science. You will play a pivotal part in supporting disciplines within the broader technical team, contributing to the success of our dynamic teaching programs.
This position may support a wide range of teaching activities across the Faculty and Curtin Medical School, but will be based in the discipline of Pharmacy. As a Laboratory Assistant working as a member of our team, your role will involve:
- Assisting team members with the overall presentation of laboratory practical classes for the Health Sciences teaching program
- Collecting, preparing, cleaning and sorting laboratory glassware and equipment.
- Organising, label, restock and maintain laboratory inventory and consumables.
- Setting up facilities and preparing laboratory/field resources in readiness for teaching and research activities, including setting up classes, collection and preparation of specimens, as applicable.
- With training, operate sterilisation equipment such as autoclaves and glassware washing and drying equipment.
- Other routine tasks associated with the support of laboratory classes within the Faculty of Health Sciences.

About us
The Curtin Medical School (CMS) is one of four schools in the Faculty of Health Sciences. The School was formed in 2021 by the merger of the Curtin Medical School, School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences and the School of Medical Radiation Sciences. The school trains a range of health professionals through accredited BSc courses. This position is within the CMS but may work in related areas across the faculty.

To be considered, you will bring to the role:
- Completion of Year 12 with relevant work experience.
- Experience in a laboratory environment preferred.
- Good communication skills with a strong desire to work as part of a team.
- Good organisational skills and an ability to prioritise multiple tasks.
- A moderate level of physical fitness commensurate with the manual handling work requirements of the role.
- A commitment to providing a safe and high-quality learning experience for our students.
- A current “C” class WA driver’s licence is desirable.
- Experience and/or training in the use of Autoclaves and sterilisation techniques is desirable.
