  • Remuneration: Level 7 $106,351 - $115,103 (depending on experience) + 17% super + leave loading

Why Your Role Matters:

The Journalist - Business will work within the Media & Content Team and be primarily responsible for supporting the digital uplift, content strategy and enhanced practices and staff capabilities required for UNSW Business School’s digital platform for BusinessThink. You will develop content to meet the needs of UNSW’s Business School and BusinessThink.

In collaboration with the Content Editor, you will create and curate compelling and engaging written, data-driven and multimedia content for the Business School’s audiences to enhance the reputations of the School and BusinessThink.

The role of Journalist - Business reports to the Content Editor - Business and has no direct reports.

Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively within the Media & Content team to deliver exceptional written, visual and multimedia content for news stories, social media and marketing material for the UNSW Business School and BusinessThink.
  • Work collaboratively with the Business School to understand the upcoming research priorities, media opportunities and key annual business calendar media activities.
  • Generate ideas and concepts for video, multimedia and other content to achieve innovative results that increase engagement with UNSW’s and the Business School’s audiences, applying judgement, creativity and flexibility.
  • Create, publish and curate multimedia content across UNSW and the Business School’s digital, print and social channels including the Newsroom, Business School and BusinessThink websites.
  • Apply a strong understanding of industry trends and audience needs and interrogate data in order to inform content decisions and to ensure all content created is highly engaging and delivers on set objectives.
  • Assist with the creation, curation and distribution of the BusinessThink EDM and regular updating of the site.
  • Ensure content, length, tone and style requirements are satisfied for all work undertaken and are in line with UNSW and the Business School’s brand and reputation. Ensure content meets audience needs and best practice standards.

Who You Are:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience as a news and/or business journalist with high-level writing skills and proven expertise in content production including video and multimedia.
  • High level of proficiency in digital publishing across platforms and channels. Strong understanding of digital best practice, content optimisation, amplification strategies and SEO. Ability to interrogate and analyse data and analytics to inform content decisions.
  • A strong understanding of and experience in social media and creating social-specific content that drives audience engagement, whether it be text, multimedia or visual content.
  • Good understanding of target audiences, with an effective writing style and understanding of high-impact messaging to these audiences.
  • Impeccable attention to detail to ensure accuracy, consistency and the ability to enhance and bring media content to life.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills that support an ability to engage with and influence external media.
