Community Safety and Security business units operate across Monash University’s Australian campuses. Monash Security Services provides a physical security, surveillance, escort and crime prevention service. Safer Community Unit provides a central point of inquiry, advice, investigation, risk assessment, and management in relation to concerning or threatening behaviours and incidents (including sexual offences, sexual harassment, stalking, family and interpersonal violence, threats, hazing and mental health-related behaviours) impacting the Monash community.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a passionate Investigation and Risk Assessment Specialist, an instrumental role in managing and investigating concerning or threatening behaviour, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our community. Reporting to the Manager Investigation and Risk Assessment, you will be working with Specialists to make a significant impact and contribute to a secure and harmonious environment. The Specialist will employ sound investigative skills to support the University’s formal action, ensuring the principals of procedural fairness and natural justice are applied. That the decisions taken are legally defensible and supported by strong evidence. The specialist will apply creative thinking when taking a best practice approach to risk assessment which include a factual assessment of a situation, tailoring the most appropriate solution when there are many viable solutions.

About you!

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Sound operational experience providing victim support and/or mental health services
  • Ability to assess the risk of problem behaviour (to the person demonstrating the problem behaviour, to those impacted, and to University) and identify strategies to ameliorate the risk
  • Highly developed investigation skills, including interviewing experience, with an ability to compile briefs of evidence for the purposes of misconduct (disciplinary) action
  • A working knowledge of the criminal justice process, and ability to work collaboratively across multiple areas of a complicated organisation

A degree/tertiary qualification in a relevant field such as counselling, social work, or a related behavioural field, with extensive relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training would be essential.
