Under broad direction, the Institute Manager, Medical Device and Research Institute (MDRI) will facilitate the growth of medical devices and technologies research activity at Flinders University by providing high level strategic support for and management of the University's Medical Device Research Institute (MDRI).
The Institute Manager will be responsible for identifying, pursuing, and securing opportunities for enhancing and promoting MDRI's capabilities and reputation in medical device research.
This role will foster and support research collaboration between existing MDRI members while also identifying and translating key opportunities for external collaboration and investment.

Key Position Responsibilities

The Institute Manager (MDRI) is accountable for:

  • Contributing to the development of MDRI’s strategic planning and the implementation of strategic direction and initiatives.

  • Identifying and investigating new initiatives and funding opportunities for MDRI and facilitating the preparation of proposals.

  • Encouraging and facilitating collaborative ventures both within the MDRI and externally.

  • Representing MDRI, including the researchers and the overall research capability, at a range of internal and external events and meetings in order to build the reputation of the Institute.

  • Driving external stakeholder engagement to facilitate grants, proposals, and new opportunities for MDRI.

  • Identifying and implementing ways to support higher degree students in the Institute.

  • Contributing to and coordinating the production of reports.

  • Providing advice and support to the Director of MDRI.

  • Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the position as assigned by the Supervisor and/or the University.

Key Position Capabilities

  • Progress towards postgraduate qualifications and relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and/or training.

  • Capacity to think and plan strategically.

  • Highly developed organisational skills and demonstrated ability to drive and deliver opportunities for growth

  • Significant experience of research and project management, preferably related to medical devices.

  • Ability to facilitate and coordinate the writing of complex research grant applications and attract research grant funding.

  • Highly developed liaison skills with the ability to identify project opportunities through interactions with a range of prospective clients / collaborators including industry bodies and government agencies.

  • High level written and oral communication skills, including the ability to write grants and proposals.

  • Knowledge of technology transfer and commercialisation (including intellectual property management).

  • High level interpersonal skills, and the capacity to work effectively with a wide range of people and in a team environment.

  • A broad knowledge and understanding of funding opportunities relevant to MDRI.
