Summary:
Under routine to general direction the Allied Health Assistant will contribute to cardiac rehabilitation services by providing supporting tasks prescribed by an Allied Health Professional. This includes completing both clinical and non-clinical support activities as part of a cardiac rehabilitation program and professional services to adult and aged care clients in Nhulunbuy, East Arnhem area and may include some community and client home based tasks.
Key Position Responsibilities
The Indigenous Allied Health Assistant is accountable for:
Assisting with timely, clinically and culturally appropriate cardiac rehabilitation and aged care services.
Building rapport with community members and organisations ensuring that the services provided are culturally appropriate.
Perform a defined range of basic procedures and activities as directed by Allied Health Research Project Officer, including individual and group education programs.
Maintaining close communication with Allied Health professionals, patients, families and other health professionals, regarding care and progress, including relevant documentation.
Contributing to patient records according to organisational guidelines and legal requirements.
Undertaking non-clinical tasks including, maintaining service delivery areas, retrieval, cleaning and maintaining of equipment as well as performing routine clerical and administrative duties.
Using several computer programs and online systems in order to facilitate both clinical and non-clinical duties.
Actively contributing to a multidisciplinary team through meetings, case conferences and multidisciplinary activities.
Contributing to quality improvement activities and quality control tasks as directed.
Facilitating and monitoring self-development to ensure ongoing education in order to meet professional competency and mandatory training requirements.
Participating in general preventative health education programs in conjunction with other health professionals as required.
Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the position as assigned by the Supervisor and/or the University.
Key Position Capabilities
Completion of a Certificate or Diploma in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and/or training.
Well-developed self-management skills, including time management, ability to organise and prioritise tasks, and complete duties in a timely manner with minimal supervision
Demonstrated experience in work related activities relevant to this position, including teamwork and organisational responsibilities.
Demonstrated experience assisting health professionals with the delivery of preventive health programs, interacting with patients, and functional activities.
Effective IT skills including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, databases, Internet and the ability to quickly become competent with other systems and programs as required.
Effective oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise effectively with colleagues, and the general public in a cross-cultural environment.
Experience in a health service setting is highly desirable.
