Seaweed based functional food and nutraceutical development

Project Outline:

surveying Australian seaweeds from the collection managed by collaborators at the Australian National Algae Supply Service (CSIRO affiliated) analysing proteins and peptides. Special attention will be paid to seaweeds expressing bioactive peptides and proteins, and to seaweeds that exhibit potential for human or animal feed. Develop methods for the testing, characterisation, and encapsulation of functional components will be pursued.

Project Area: Seaweed proteomics

Desired Skills: general laboratory competency important. Experience with analytical chemistry espeically liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry will be desirable. Knowledge of nutrition, animal physiology, or microbiology is desirable.
