Hybrid Theatre Technical Officer

About the opportunity                                                                                                                                             

The Hybrid Theatre is a unique facility in Australia. This surgical theatre combines state of the art C-arm imaging technology with surgical robotics. The facility forms the focal point for research, teaching and training of a highly collaborative group of surgeons, physicians, clinical scientists, engineers, and translational basic scientists. The facility enables interventional imaging studies using some of the best technology currently available. We are now searching for a Technical Officer to join the team.

The technical officer plays a critical role in providing sound, expert, technical support and advice to researchers and students using the research facilities, aiding the research and teaching work and providing collaborative research input for projects being undertaken by the work area.

Other duties and responsibilities may include:

  • Carries out experiments for the research work being undertaken in the Theatre, including imaging, monitoring of animals or specimens over periods of time, setting up research protocols and controls, etc.

  • Manages the preparation and maintenance of teaching/research facility including assembly, scientific calibration, testing and repair of facility equipment, experiments, teaching aids and projects.

  • Keeps Workplace Health and Safety records, as per the University’s Workplace Health and Safety policy, ensuring that WHS matters requiring attention are addressed appropriately.

  • Prepares ethics applications, including editing, submission, tracking of progress and reporting.

  • Liaises with centralised services to ensure effective delivery of services to the work area – including Research Unit, Finance, ICT, HR, Procurement and CIS in line with University policy and procedure.

  • Tertiary qualifications and is certified to work in a research laboratory /clinical setting together with some work experience (e.g. surgical theatre, animal imaging, etc)

  • Good verbal and written communication skills, with proven ability to apply theoretical knowledge and techniques to meet thekey accountabilities

  • Ability to work both independently and as a part of a team, strong problem solving skills and the ability to use initiative and exercise sound judgement and ability to prioritise workload with competing priorities and sometimes limited supervision

  • Sound working knowledge and acute awareness of safety regulations and operating procedures within the facility environment including experience in working with hazardous substances with well-rounded experience in implementing safety procedures relevant to the facility

  • Experience in a clinical or research or animal surgical environment

  • Broad knowledge of Medical Imaging research modalities and techniques (X-ray, CT, Ultrasound, MRI Etc.).

Your employment is conditional upon the completion of all role required pre-employment or background checks in terms satisfactory to the University. Similarly, your ongoing employment is conditional upon the satisfactory maintenance of all relevant clearances and background check requirements.
