The Australian National University wishes to appoint an outstanding person to lead and facilitate the activities of the Herbert and Valmae Freilich Foundation. The Herbert and Valmae Freilich Foundation is an endowment to The Australian National University established in 1999 to promote the study of, and research into, the causes, histories, and effects of ethnic, cultural, religious, and sexual bigotry and animosity, and to explore ways in which intolerance can be combated – and co-existence promoted – by educational and social programs.
The Foundation sits within the Humanities Research Centre (HRC). It facilitates a range of interdisciplinary activities which aim to broaden the conversation about bigotry within universities and beyond. Further information about the Foundation can be found at http://www.anu.edu.au/hrc/freilich/
The successful applicant will be an active researcher in a discipline relevant to the work of the Foundation. S/he will provide leadership for the Foundation, participate and build upon the existing program of activities, participate in teaching and supervision, and develop relationships with relevant units within the ANU and external organisations.
