The School of Chemistry works with industry, government and the community to support researchers and educate aspiring chemists as they work to address critical real-world challenges. The School of Chemistry has an international reputation for excellence in research, and consistently ranks among the top chemistry departments in Australia. Our research infrastructure, which underpins and supports our research programs includes state-of-the-art laboratories for chemical synthesis and instruments for mass spectrometry, NMR spectrometry, chromatography, thermophysical property measurements and X-ray scattering.

The Head of School is a member of the Faculty Leadership Group and chairs the School Leadership Group for the School of Chemistry. This position contributes to the overall faculty strategy and goals and is responsible for setting, communicating and achieving faculty goals and strategies at school level.

The Head of School is responsible for curriculum design and delivery, in addition to research and education strategy at a school level.  The role also leads resourcing, talent management and external engagement for the school, ensuring the school’s alignment with faculty objectives, University policies and external standards, as well as clinical service to enable teaching, research and for community benefit. The position manages the school budget and expenditure and is accountable for the financial sustainability of the School. The Head of School demonstrates and enables the values of the University in relation to its people and culture.

About you

PhD qualified, the successful candidate will have recognised international academic and professional standing within a relevant academic field. You will have extensive experience in people leadership and management within the higher education, experience in working with industry, and a track record in managing financial sustainability, infrastructure and the operational needs and practices of an academic unit. Your ability to make strategic decisions, together with strong business acumen, will support your endeavours in academic leadership, key stakeholder management and industry collaborations.

The successful applicant must have a wide network of established relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders, that can be leveraged to enhance the standing of the school, the faculty and the University.

Term and remuneration

The successful candidate will be offered a competitive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications.
