The school brings together Curtin’s core capabilities across mining and metallurgy, and energy and chemical engineering, to drive innovation across the entire resources industry value chain. We are ranked 1st in Australia and 2nd in world for Mineral and Mining Engineering, and renowned for our deep history and strong regional presence at the Curtin Kalgoorlie campus.

The Head of School role is an outstanding opportunity for a strategic and operational leader to inspire excellence and continuous improvement in learning, teaching, research, and innovation within the school.

Reporting to the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty, you will:

  • Collaborate with the PVC and Faculty Deans to establish clear and agreed operational plans, goals, and priorities for the school
  • Lead the annual operational planning through the establishment of a committee structure and associated leadership roles
  • Leverage your passion and vision, engage academic and non-academic colleagues, students and industry partners in a long-term strategy focussed on outcomes and excellence, aligned with the faculty and the school
  • Manage staffing functions, including workforce planning, recruitment, and training and development
  • Manage school finances, including preparing the school budget and managing expenditure against targets.
  • Foster strong domestic and international connections with relevant government, business, professional bodies, and the wider community 
Key Requirements
  • Extensive leadership and management experience with the ability to work with and inspire others to develop a shared vision of the school’s future.
  • Ability to think strategically and exceptional people management skills, with the capacity to build a strong positive culture to attract and develop talented staff to foster world class performance will help translate the University’s strategic goals into local plans and initiatives.
  • You will bring a distinguished and sustained record of strategic and academic leadership and governance in a complex stakeholder environment.
  • Renowned international knowledge in your field, with a passion to deliver successful outcomes will enhance the global reputation of the School and the University.
