The School of Design and the Built Environment (DBE) in the Faculty of Humanities embraces study that challenges and empowers students and staff to engage in taking informed action toward achieving brighter human futures in the domains of Sustainable, Global, Indigenous, and Learning Futures.  The School of BDE is committed to developing deep partnerships with the communities and industries we serve. Ranking in the top 100 in the world for Architecture and Built Environment (QS 2022), the School of DBE spans disciplines in architecture and construction management, geography, urban and regional planning, and the creative industries along with the Curtin Sustainability Policy Institute.
 
Your new role
Reporting to the Faculty Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Richard Blythe, you will provide overall academic leadership enacting the University’s mission, values, and strategic goals. You will work with others to develop a shared vision for the School’s future that inspires commitment and bring about change. This includes translating the University’s overarching equity and diversity strategic goals into local plans and initiatives. In addition, you will foster and maintain an environment in which academics and professional staff work collaboratively and build rewarding partnerships to achieve excellence in the areas of learning and teaching, research and innovation, and engagement and impact. Through your experience in attracting, developing, and empowering talented staff,  you will ensure the effective management of staff and resources within the School.

  • Be an accomplished scholar, or practitioner with academic leadership experience.
  • Have the intellectual breadth to grasp different disciplinary approaches to shape a strategic and shared vision.
  • Have proven experience in delivering continuous improvement in both teaching and research.
  • Have demonstrated experience in building a strong positive culture and fostering world-class performance through collaboration and innovation.
  • have a flair for cultivating partnerships within and outside the school, especially in interdisciplinary research and pedagogy.
  • Be an effective negotiator with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Have a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion with the ability to translate strategic goals into local plans and initiatives.
