About the opportunity

The University of Sydney, one of Australia’s most prestigious universities, is looking for a Head of Internal Communications to develop and deliver strategies to drive employee engagement with a diverse internal community. As part of the Marketing and Communications team, you will lead the internal communications team, manage relationships within the University and ensure an integrated approach to communications. 

Play a pivotal role in shaping and telling the University’s story to its key constituents. You will have great judgement and the ability to provide high level advice. You will have a passion for communications and storytelling. You will thrive in working in complex organisations, love working with people from all works of life, and be simulated by a vibrant, collaborative and inspiring environment. About the Role: 

  • Lead the development and implementation of the internal communications strategy to deliver key messages and information that engages academic and professional staff
  • Provide strategic internal communications advice to senior leaders including the Vice-Chancellor
  • Lead and mentor the internal communications team
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to align communication plans, activities and messaging to support the University’s strategy and enhance reputation
  • Lead the development of high quality internal messaging and content for a range of University channels, including the intranet, Staff News and Student News

You have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in communications or a related discipline with extensive experience in internal communications management or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in an team management role, in a complex and multifaceted organisation 
  • Experience in providing high-level advice to senior leadership 
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing integrated internal communications strategies 
  • Experience managing issues and reputational risk communications
  • Stakeholder management and relationship building skills
  • Experience working in the higher education sector will be highly regarded

Term and remuneration

The successful candidate will be offered a competitive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications.
