The Role
The Head of Department is responsible for the leadership, development, direction, and management of the English for University (EU) program including but not limited to:
- Oversight of the EU program in respect of program delivery and management, learning & teaching, student achievement of outcomes, quality assurance, and compliance across all courses and campuses.
- Management, development, and/or support of program and course proposals related to curriculum & assessment, student support, marketing & recruitment, operations & administration, and policies & procedures.
- Contribution to the strategic direction of the school in collaboration with members of the SEUP Executive team to review, plan and develop initiatives that support growth, sustainability, and viability of the English and pathway programs at RMIT Vietnam.
- Leadership and performance management of the EU academic team.
- Communication and collaboration across relevant RMIT University, RMIT Vietnam and RMIT Training teams.

Functional reports: Senior Academic English Manager - Hanoi
Your Responsibilities
- Responsible for the overall delivery and quality of programs under the English for University department including learning & teaching, curriculum & assessment, student support & achievement of outcomes, staffing & performance management, operations & administration, quality assurance & compliance, systems for feedback & reporting, and the department's overall achievement of specified metrics of performance.
- Contribute to student relationship management by overseeing student academic support, collaborating to deliver university services, committing to the improvement of student engagement and experience, managing systems/processes related to administration, and ensuring students’ equity of access.
- Provide leadership to academic and administration staff across campuses. Develop appropriately skilled and motivated staff through recruitment, mentoring, and performance management, fostering a culture of teamwork. Ensure teaching staff are actively committed to student service and support, and to the enhancement of the student experience. Collaborate with other SEUP management and specialist staff to initiate, plan, manage and evaluate professional development for teaching staff and managers in their programs.
- Ensure curricula and assessment are appropriate, relevant, current, valid, copyright compliant and aligned with industry standards and in accordance with the SEUP Digital Learning Strategy.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable external and university regulatory requirements, including RMIT Policies and Procedures, Vietnam and Australian legal and regulatory requirements and develop relevant new policy or guideline documentation and procedures as required.
- Develop appropriate networks and relationships internally and externally as required. Collaborate with relevant departments across RMIT Vietnam to deliver an inclusive student experience. Collaborate with RMIT University Vietnam Student Recruitment & Marketing to support a marketing plan, coordinate recruitment events, and provide input into marketing materials. Collaborate with relevant departments at RMIT Training to develop and support pathways across RMIT University.
- Promote continuous improvement and propose solutions in collaboration with SEUP executive. Assist the Director on assigned projects and develop and implement the SEUP operating development plan. Contribute to effective program budgeting and resource management by assisting the Director and School Manager in determining, preparing, and managing annual program budgets.
- Carry out other duties (academic, operational, or administrative) as required.
Skills and Experience
Qualifications and Pre-requisites
Mandatory
- Degree plus CELTA or equivalent
- Relevant Masters or postgraduate qualifications
- Experience at a management level in a language teaching organisation at least 3 years
- Industry experience relevant to the Course/s being managed
Preferred
- Previous experience as head of a language teaching department or equivalent.
- Demonstrated capability related to the effective leadership and management of language teaching programs.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and manage courses and administrative systems.
- Ability to contribute to and support the SEUP strategic objectives and operational direction for RMIT Vietnam.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, including negotiation, liaison, cross cultural communication, and report writing skills.
- Demonstrated capability to be an effective member of a management team where responsibilities span multiple locations and where delivery of programs involves collaboration with fellow managers in a matrix reporting structure.
- A commitment to quality language education and an understanding of contemporary approaches to teaching and learning that underpin English language programs at RMIT Vietnam.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and effectively manage varying workloads and respond to changing priorities as required.
- Ability to display appropriate behaviours in line with the position, as per the RMIT Behavioural Capability Framework and in line with RMIT values.
