Offer Description
(Level A) $75,888 to $102,040 or (Level B) $107,276 to $126,894 per annum plus an employer contribution of 17% superannuation applies.
Fixed term, full time position available for 1 year with a possibility to extend.
A postdoctoral research fellow position is available to work Dr Qi Zhang, who is establishing her lab as an EMBL-Australia Group Leader at the South Australian immunoGENomics Cancer Institute (SAiGENCI). The successful candidate will lead a project to study how gene repression is maintained by chromatin modifying complexes and how it is dysregulated in disease through biochemistry, molecular biology, genome editing, genomics and structural biology approaches.
For the candidate, this will involve prodigious training opportunities:
- State-of-the-art tools/skillsets in epigenetics and bioinformatics (NGS techniques + systems approaches) and access to core equipment such as imaging, flow cytometry etc.
- The chance to forge collaborations with experts in diverse fields at the Adelaide biomedical precinct.
- Ample professional, scientific and mentoring opportunities to develop into a highly visible future leader in their own right.
- The opportunity to establish themselves in a new institute and to have a profound impact on the research environment.
The position stresses the importance of working in a healthy and inclusive environment (equality and diversity are critical to outside-the-box thinking!), and acquiring the skills needed to succeed in science, such as balancing the creative spark with rigorous self-critique. We have the ambitious goal of having a profound impact, not just on the science but also on the individuals we work with. If this sounds like you or the person you want to be, please apply!
To be successful you will need:
- A Ph.D. in molecular biology, cancer biology, epigenetics or relevant fields.
- Excellent publication record.
- Experience in molecular biology and genomics techniques to study transcription and epigenetic regulation, such as IP-MS, ChIP-seq, CUT&RUN/Tag, RNA-seq etc.
- Experience in cell biology, such as tissue culture, CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, fluorescence microscopy etc.
- Clear record of driving to success their own research, including experimental design, execution and manuscript writing.
