• Salary Package: $75,763 per annum (Level A step 2) plus 17% employer’s superannuation and annual leave loading
• Appointment Type: part-time 0.5FTE, fixed term for 5 years

THE ROLE

As part of the Graduate Teaching Associate Program, an exciting new initiative at Macquarie, the Faculty of Science and Engineering is seeking applicants from highly motivated Macquarie University graduate researchers for up to four positions, one in each of the following Schools:

  • School of Computing in the research areas of cyber security; artificial intelligence; data science; information systems Internet of Things or web technologies

  • School of Engineering in the research areas of Electrical and/or Electronic Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; Mechatronics; Civil Engineering; or Engineering Management

  • School of Mathematics & Physical Sciences - applications from all research areas in the School are welcome

  • School of Natural Sciences - applications from all research areas in the School are welcome

The Graduate Teaching Associate is an early career academic position for newly commencing graduate research students who would like to develop high quality teaching skills during their research candidature. It consists of:

  • a 0.5FTE five year employment contract linked to enrolment in a part-time PhD for 5 years

  • followed by a 6 month full-time PhD scholarship to support the completion of the PhD (subject to satisfactory progression on the Annual Performance Review), and

  • a structured learning and teaching development program.

The Graduate Teaching Associate undertakes a range of duties associated with teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students including relevant administration and professional activities and supports the achievement of the School’s strategic objectives.

Eligibility

To be eligible for employment offers starting in Session 2, 2022 you must be an Australian citizen or Australian Permanent Resident and:

  • have commenced your PhD at Macquarie University from 1 January 2022, OR

  • have an offer to commence a PhD at Macquarie University in Session 2, 2022. You must apply for your PhD by 25 March 2022 in order to receive an offer in time for the GTAP.

We are not able to offer this program to International Students due to visa employment restrictions.

Essential selection criteria

  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills and an ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of stakeholders such as staff and students

  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills

  • Excellent time management skills including the ability to assess priorities and manage competing deadlines

  • Demonstrated capacity for and/or alignment with the university purpose, vision and values

  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team

  • Ability to accept collegiate responsibilities and act accordingly

  • Masters by Research or equivalent degree in one of the research areas outlined above

Desirable selection criteria

  • Teaching experience at undergraduate level

  • Course administration experience

  • Research experience in related subject
