Opportunity to utilise your financial counselling skills to assist people experiencing gambling related challenges
Base Salary, HEO6 $95,860 - $103,341 p.a. (pro-rata) + 17% superannuation
About the opportunity
The School of Psychology is welcoming applications for a Gambling Financial Counsellor to be part of the GambleAware team, and will work within the guidelines of the operating policies of the GambleAware clinic and related University policies.
The successful candidate will be expected to provide financial counselling to people experiencing gambling related challenges or harm and their significant others as well as effective community engagement to relevant stakeholders in the community.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
provide financial assessment, counselling and case work to people experiencing gambling related challenges or harm and their significant others
provide comprehensive, accurate and timely information related to the client’s individual circumstances
advocate and negotiate with credit providers on the client’s behalf
participate in developing community education resources on debt and gambling related issues in addition to other community engagement activities
provide face-to-face practical support including establishing debt repayment plans and budget planning
maintain client files to a high professional standard and take part in file audits.
About you

a diploma of financial counselling or Diploma of community services (financial counselling)
a valid membership with an appropriate financial counselling association e.g. FCAN and FCA
demonstrated understanding and experience in complying with Good Clinical Practice, regulatory, ethical, privacy and other relevant guidelines
excellent oral and written communication skills
superior interpersonal skills including ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients, team members and stakeholders and exercise tact and sound judgement
a minimum of 6 months experience in a financial counselling position (desired).

Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the reasons for the position.
