About the Role 

The Centre for Forensic Behavioural Science (CFBS) is Australasia’s leading centre for excellence in the areas of forensic mental health and forensic behavioural science research, teaching and practice development. We bring together academics, clinicians, researchers and students from a variety of disciplines, including psychology, psychiatry, nursing, social work, law, occupational therapy and epidemiology. A key focus of the CFBS is to transfer academic and clinical excellence into practice in the health, community services and criminal justice sectors. Our research programs include: Aggression and Violence; Forensic Mental Health; Childhood Maltreatment and Youth Offending; Complex Criminal Behaviour; Culture, Psychology and Law; Psychology and Legal Processes; and Rehabilitation, Reintegration and Offender Management. 

Established in 2007, the CFBS has also served as the research and training arm for the Victorian Institute of Forensic Mental Health (Forensicare). Forensicare is the statutory agency that provides adult forensic mental health services across Victoria. The primary focus of Forensicare’s work is on providing clinical services for the effective assessment, treatment and management of forensic patients and clients and people with a mental illness who have offended or are at risk of offending.  

Forensicare is committed to providing recovery-orientated forensic mental health services in which the principles of hope, social inclusion, personalised care and genuine collaboration are fundamental to practice. These services are delivered through three directorates: inpatient services at Thomas Embling Hospital, community services through the Community Forensic Mental Health Service and prison-based services at several locations. This position contribute significantly to the Forensicare Research Department in collaboration with clinician research leads, Forensicare research staff and the Forensicare Research Manager. This may include contributing to and/or leading the development and conduct of new or existing research or evaluation projects, writing of publications and preparation and presentation of findings for dissemination to key internal and external audiences.

About You  

To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities: 

 

  • Demonstrated experience in designing and conducting research/evaluation independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary clinical environment Demonstrated experience with qualitative and/or quantitative research/evaluation design in forensic mental health and/or mental health service delivery Demonstrated experience in research/evaluation fieldwork including the development and distribution of surveys and qualitative data collection through interview or focus groups. Demonstrated capacity to complete advanced writing and analysis tasks, including the preparation and publication of reports and presentations.

Qualifications

  • Level A, a honours in Psychology, Criminology, or a related discipline Health Science Level B, a doctoral qualification in Psychology, Criminology, or a related discipline Health Science, in conjunction with relevant research or evaluation experience.
