Farm Hand

  • Caring for livestock, including feeding, grooming, and monitoring their health
  • Work with the College of Sciences and Engineering on a 220-hectare dairy farm
  • Full-time, fixed-Term (3 years) position based in Elliot, NW Tasmania

About the opportunity

 You will carry out the general duties of a dairy farm, such as milk harvesting operations, feeding stock, assisting in calving and assisting in animal health issues. The position also requires experience in operating a range of farm machinery and the capability to perform general maintenance of roadways, fences and machinery.

What you’ll do:

  • Assist in the provision of general farm maintenance of plant and equipment, stockyards, fences and water infrastructure.
  • Undertake milk harvesting operations under minimal supervision.
  • Assist in the caring for livestock including feeding, calving and dealing with animal health issues under minimal supervision.
  • Operate all farm machinery and assets in an appropriate manner in line with prescribed safe work procedures and relevant WHS obligations.
  • Accurately record basic farm information and report to the Farm Manager/immediate supervisor in a timely manner.

­What we’re looking for:

  • Completion of year 10 with some work experience, or a combination of relevant experience and training.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge and/or ability to learn the provision of preventative plant and equipment maintenance within a farm environment in a manner which supports research activities and high level WHS expectations.
  • Demonstrated capability of accurately reporting and acting upon maintenance requirements.
  • Capacity to learn and perform milk harvesting and animal health activities.
  • In line with Safe Work Procedures, the ability to perform demanding physical activities, such as lifting, walking, and handling of materials associated with farm operations.

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 3 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $79,630 comprising base salary within the range of $61,436 to $68,060 plus 17% superannuation.
