Position Summary:

We seek expressions of interest for a Research Associate in Hydrogeology who will undertake research in  Ecology, Evolution and Environment under the direction of the Strategic Professor in Hydrogeology (Flinders University) and Dr Luk Peeters (CSIRO). In working with lead researchers and their teams, the incumbent will assist in leading the design and execution of the research project.

Research project:

A regional map of the potentiometric surface remains a crucial piece of information in hydrogeological investigations and water resource management. Creating such a map is often still challenging as scarce and unevenly distributed observations need to be reconciled with our understanding of the groundwater flow system.

Flinders University and CSIRO’s Deep Earth Imaging Future Science Platform are therefore seeking a post-doctoral research fellow with a background in Hydrogeology to help develop, test and implement a systematic workflow for regional water table mapping. The research project will consist of

  • Developing a workflow to integrate observations with conceptual system understanding
  • Design a series of tests to evaluate water table maps
  • Test the workflow through a field campaign in which groundwater level measurements are combined with remote sensing and geophysical measurements
  • Implement the workflow in a practical software package
  • The incumbent will be based at CSIRO’s Waite Campus (80%) and Flinders University Bedford Park Campus (20%). The incumbent may assist in leading students involved in the research Project, according to the University’s policies, practices and standards.

A valid National Police Certificate which is satisfactory to the University will be required before the successful applicant can commence in this position.

    Information For Applicants:

You are required to provide a suitability statement of no more than three pages, addressing the key capabilities of the position description. In addition, you are required to upload your CV.
