The Opportunity

The Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is looking for highly motivated sessional Teaching Associates to contribute to its Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science (BPharmSci) and Master of Pharmaceutical Science (MPharmSci) courses.

The BPharmSci and MPharmSci are applied science courses that link knowledge across multiple disciplines (medicinal chemistry, drug discovery biology and pharmacology, formulation science, regulatory science) to applications in pharmaceutical research and industry. They both feature a hands-on problem solving approach, supported by strong connections to industry partners and world-class research teams at the Monash Parkville campus. Our teaching associates play a vital role in facilitating active learning in workshops and lab classes across both degrees.

Teaching Associates will work under the guidance of unit coordinators/lecturers to prepare and teach engaging, interactive workshop and laboratory classes and assist in assessment. In particular, this will involve:

  • Conducting workshop and laboratory classes using active learning approaches
  • Marking student work and providing feedback that supports learning
  • Maintaining teaching- and student-related records as required
  • Meeting with unit coordinators/lecturers to review teaching activities and exchange information on student progress
  • Assisting lecturers in the preparation of workshop and laboratory classes
  • Responding to student questions on unit-related matters online or in person as required
  • Behaving in a professional, respectful and accountable manner towards students and staff. This includes, among other things, complying with University policies, especially those on equity, diversity and privacy

 The successful candidates would have the following attributes:

  • A completed honours degree (or equivalent) in pharmaceutical science or a relevant science discipline (such as chemistry, pharmacology or biomedicine)
  • Competency in fundamental laboratory techniques and laboratory safety procedures in pharmaceutical science 
  • Enthusiasm for teaching and the ability to connect with, motivate and inspire students 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills 
  • The ability to work productively and collaboratively within a team
  • Willingness to actively improve your teaching skills through training, professional development and reflective practice

Prior teaching experience, a Masters/PhD qualification or experience in research or an industry relevant to pharmaceutical science are desirable.

This role will require teaching and marking across a broad range of pharmaceutical science disciplines, notably:

Essential Selection Criteria

  • Minimum of a science degree with Honours and/or an education degree and/or equivalent degree with relevant experience
  • Previous teaching/tutoring experience in VCE chemistry and/or undergraduate-level chemistry or pharmacology (minimum 2 years).
