About the opportunity

The Executive Officer provides high level strategic advice and operational support to the Chief University Infrastructure Officer (CUIO), and Head of Operations and Engagement. In this role you will provide sound expert advice and input into the development of strategy, policy and planning for the area. In addition you will coordinate the development and implementation of operational plans and policy; ensure compliance within the University’s governance, delegations, and legislative requirements; and provide guidance and support in implementing continuous improvement initiatives for the PSU.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • plan and execute projects and strategic initiatives independently and produce deliverables within established timeframes. Identify and complete steps needed from draft through to the final product, such as identifying and initiating contacts to gather required information and obtaining appropriate levels of feedback, review, and approval
  • engage in critical analysis of proposals, reports, and in examining the more complex, non-routine cases on which decisions are required
  • ensure the effective running of UI Committee papers and action items by establishing systems and processes that facilitate the management of project tracking, status reports, communications, and all correspondence from/to the committees
  • build and maintain constructive relationships with senior stakeholders, ensuring a high level of professionalism
  • provide support, guidance, and advice to the Vice Principal (Operations) and UI Leadership Team to ensure that there is a clear link between University strategy, Operations strategy, operational plans, and service delivery models.

About you

  • postgraduate qualifications - in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of relevant training and experience
  • previously worked in the higher education/tertiary sector or at a complex, multi-faceted organization
  • previously worked in a sector requiring management and mitigation of extremely high and complex risks e.g. Construction; WHS; Health.
  • proven ability to translate and implement strategic changes into local operational practices that enhance UI administrative function
  • demonstrated experience at a senior level in the preparation and provision of responsive, clear, and concise specialist advice, recommendations, and solutions both verbally and in writing, through effective research, negotiation, and consultation with key stakeholders
  • proven strong critical thinker, problem solver, respected communicator and performer in a highly complex, political and competitive environment
  • demonstrated ability to take management responsibility for a major functional area and/or manage other staff including administrative, technical and/or professional staff.
